By having regular check-ups and addressing minor problems you may be able to avoid more serious, and expensive, conditions. If you’re constantly getting sore knees after running why not see if there is a misalignment or imbalance that can be rectified easily instead of waiting until you do significant damage.
Pick a good health care provider
If you are sick or injured find a quality medical practitioner or allied health professional that is dedicated to your recovery. Treating symptoms in the short term is important but you ultimately want a provider that addresses the root cause of the problem, which will save you money in the long term. If you are going back to the Chiropractor on weekly basis, they should be helping you prevent your condition from reoccurring, not just providing having costly corrections.
Use house brands
You can get house brand or generic equivalents of most common pharmaceuticals. Unless your doctor/pharmacist has recommended a particular brand then get the cheapest one with the same active ingredients. Basic paracetamol based pain killers all have the exact same 500mg of paracetamol, don’t pay extra for pretty packaging or marketing. If in doubt, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
To insure or not
You need to make a personal decision on whether or not health insurance is right for you. Depending on your life stage and family circumstance it may be worth paying for both private hospital and extras cover. However, if your young, single, don’t need glasses or don’t have regular allied health treatments then it may not be worth it. Don’t sign up for benefits that you will never get any value out of. If you do decide to get insurance make sure you compare your options online before purchasing a plan.
Your health is important and worth investing in, just make sure you are getting value out of your investment. The easiest way to save money on health care is to stay healthy and do regular preventative check-ups. This will keep you in tip top shape so you can enjoy your life and money.
