Budget Birthday Ideas for Your Kids

Parents want to throw awesome birthday parties for their kids, but of course, these cost money. From the balloons and birthday cake, to party food, the event can be expensive. If you’re a carer and getting parenting payment for your child, it may be a challenge to throw a birthday party. The good thing is, you can still pull something off without having to shell out a lot of money. Here are some budget birthday ideas for your kids:

Make a guest list

A lot of the party elements rely on the number of guests you’re going to invite. As much as you would want to invite everyone you know, you need to keep your budget in mind. Invite a few family members and close friends. Your child may even appreciate an intimate party with loved ones.

Go digital

Instead of sending out printed invitations, use social media sites and email to send word to guests about the birthday party. There are many websites that enable you to create your own electronic invites. You can save on printing and postage costs, plus going paperless is environment-friendly.

Consider cheap food options

There are a lot of affordable, delicious choices to choose from. Snacks can be bags of popcorn and sandwiches. You can also set up an ice cream station where guests can make their own dessert with toppings such as sprinkles and marshmallows. For a healthy option, drop by the local market to buy fruits for skewers.

Visit discount shops for budget-friendly decorations

A great way to save money is to have a party box of supplies where you can put all decorations you’d find on sale throughout the year. Look for streamers and Chinese paper lanterns. If you have some time on your hands, you can make buntings out of coloured paper. You can also create paper flowers for the table centerpiece.

Skip the party bags

Most kids who have already attended birthday parties may expect party bags as they leave your event. These can be expensive. Why not have a cupcake decorating activity where the kids can bring their own decorated cupcakes home? Those sweets can serve as your party treats, plus you can keep the guests entertained.

These are just some of the budget birthday ideas for your kids. Keep your options open and see where you can save money and still have an amazing party.

5 ways to renovate your house on a budget

Whether it’s to handle damages around the house or to give rooms an updated look, renovation costs money. If you want major upgrades, then it can be really expensive. However, you can do a home makeover without spending a lot. Here are several ways to renovate a house on a budget:

Have a plan

Don’t rush into anything when it comes to home renovation. Otherwise, you may be spending more than you should. Identify what needs to be done and your realistic budget. Do you need external help? What are the tasks that you can do yourself? What are the things to buy? These and more should be considered before renovating your house.

Hire professionals for plumbing and/or electrical work

Unless you have proper training in these fields, it is best to leave electrical, plumbing, and structural jobs to professionals. Of course, this costs money, but you may end up spending more if you try to do these things yourself. It can be dangerous, too.

DIY is the name of the game for certain tasks

When it comes to house renovations on a budget, it pays to know some practical skills so you don’t always have to hire someone to do the work for you. Save money by handling tasks such as stripping off tiles, dismantling kitchen cabinets, painting, etc. DIY interior design is also a great idea. Tap your creativity and resourcefulness to decorate your home. You can watch videos online to get some DIY inspiration

Use the power of a good painting job

Do not underestimate the power of the humble paint. Changing the colour scheme is the easiest way to update the look of your home. It’s the cheapest, too! In general, you can go for neutral or pastel colors to give rooms a brighter, airy ambiance, while dark colors are preferred to achieve a cozy appeal.

Adjust your expectations

We all have that clear image of a dream house, but if you’re on a shoestring budget, learn to compromise. You may want to set your expectations based on what you can actually spend.

These are just some of the simple ways to renovate a house on a budget. It’s all about what needs to be done and how you plan to do it. Right now, you may not be able to do everything you want in your house due to a limited budget but who knows? With hard work, you will soon be able to achieve your home goals.

How to Create a Budget

So you want to keep track of your money and have better spending habits?

Everybody has told you that you need a budget. But where do you start?

Let’s start with your bank statements.

Start by taking a look at the money coming in and going out of your accounts. Get your last three months of bank statements.

Put your income into categories to see where your earnings are coming from. Then put your expenses into categories to see where you are spending your money.

By having categories, this will help you work out where you are earning and where you are spending your money each month.

If you want to have more savings, what are you going to do next month to change things?

Are you going to work more hours or take on an extra job to increase your income? Or are you going to reduce your spending on items such as eating out or clothes shopping next month and save that money instead?

Write down your plan for next month, and be sure to stick to it.

Congratulate yourself as you have just created your first household budget.
