CBA’s cardless ATM deposit limit has dropped to $750 a day, from $1,000.

CommBank issued a notice to customers it was reducing the amount that can be deposited using a mobile phone number to perform ATM cardless deposits.

As of this week, customers are limited to depositing $750 in cash per transaction no more than once a day per mobile phone number.

One social media user shared the notice to Facebook, saying the amount was “incredibly low” for small businesses wanting to deposit their daily takings.

In response to criticism, the bank pointed out customers will still be able to use their cards to deposit up to $10,000 in cash a day in as many transactions as they wished.

It said the move was part of the bank’s ongoing commitment to protecting customers and the community from financial crime.

Pro-cash social media groups have decried the change as another step towards the big banks driving a cashless economy.
